One year plus

Yeah, I know.  I NEVER post two days in a row.  But there were a couple of things I wanted to say that wouldn't have fit in with the last post.  So I'm putting up a short, bonus post at no added cost to you.

It's been over a year since I started this blog.  And it's got 3,400 views - which is something I guess.  I still wonder who the heck in Ukraine is looking at my goofy stuff.  I do appreciate those who take the time to read, and especially the ones who submit a comment now and again.  It reminds me that I'm not just writing for myself.

There's been another milestone of sorts.  It's been over a year since my last injury.  Those who are familiar with my recent history know I've had a streak of not so great luck.  I'm hoping that I've learned enough to be able to end that baloney.

Here's a bit of video from a ride I took today.

  1. I was coincidentally listening to Paul Winter Consort while I watched the video and it was perfect. What are you riding? I realize that I should know this, but I don't. Mountain bike videos always look so...strenuous. Your woods ride was more of a waltz. Very nice, Steve, and congratulations on your benchmark of one year plus.

    Here's to another, and another...

  2. TJ,

I ride a Gary Fisher Mullet, made by Trek. It's a bit beefier than the usual XC frame, almost like an All Mountain bike. But I have been known to be rough on bikes so I don't mind the little extra weight.

I've been working on riding smoother, and more consistantly. The trails in that video are the technical side of the park - you just don't see most of the rocks because the leaves are so thick. In an effort to avoid injury-producing stunts, I've focused on getting out of the seat more and trying to get that elusive "float" over the rocks. Not that I'm there, but I'm getting closer.

Part of the reason my rides don't look as frantically strenuous is that I have to pace myself due to my breathing problems. So I keep a more steady pace in order to keep a reserve for climbs. I'd rather ride a bit slower than have to stop and take breaks - not sure why on that...

Paul Winter - I loved his "Prayer for the Wild Things". Listened to it over and over.

Let me tell ya - I rode for 2-1/2 hours the day I shot that video and felt like I could have gone on all day. The only reason I stopped was because it was going to get dark soon. Makes me look forward to getting in some snow rides this winter.

Have fun on that new bike. Saddle time sooths the mind.
